Squelch is a macOS menu-bar utility that mutes your microphone with a global hotkey, a menu click, or an AirPods stem-press. This policy describes what data Squelch handles. The short version: none.
Last updated 13 May 2026.
What Squelch doesn't do
- Squelch never opens a microphone capture session and never accesses audio data.
- Squelch does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
- Squelch contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs.
- Squelch makes no network requests.
- Squelch does not require an account and has no sign-in.
What Squelch stores on your Mac
Squelch saves a small amount of configuration locally via the standard
macOS UserDefaults mechanism:
- Your configured global hotkey.
- Whether mute and unmute sound cues are enabled.
- Whether Squelch should launch at login.
This data never leaves your Mac and is removed when you uninstall the app.
Permissions
Squelch runs inside the macOS App Sandbox and does not request the microphone permission. The mute operation is performed at the system audio level — the same way the macOS volume keys work — without ever opening a capture session.
Children
Squelch is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. No information of any kind is collected about anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with a new last-updated date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
